Natural Luxe Giveaway

This contest has ended. Thanks to all that entered!
You might remember Natural Luxe from their awesome Mama bags that I reviewed last month. They are a Charlotte based company that only sells “good” gifts. Whether the gift is natural, organic, recycled, charitable or a combination of all of the above- Natural Luxe sells it.

Sundays are Pet gifts and I wanted to do something a little different since we just had a pet week with tons of toys. Natural Luxe does sell Eco-friendly pet toys: And amazing Eco-friendly pet beds:But I wanted to share a gift that has it all, the Eco-Me Natural Dog Kit. The kit includes: 1 Bottle with Sprayer to mix Eco-Me Dog Flea & Bug Spray, 1 Jar & Lid to mix eco-me Dog Clean Wipes- 25 recyclable cloths included, 1 Jar & Lid to mix Eco-Me Dog Dry Powder Shampoo, 1 Jar & Lid to store Eco-Me Dog Treats with 3 recipes, 1 Dog Bone shaped Biscuit Cookie Cutter, and 1 Bottle of Eco-Me Dog blend essential oil mix 1 Mixer 1 Scooper. The essential oils are citronella, lavender and lemongrass.

Eco-Me products are 100% natural and are good for your pet plus the environment. Most flea shampoos (and even the one time monthly doses) contain tons of nasty chemicals that stay on your pets skin- obviously to kill the fleas. If your dog has allergies like mine, the harsh shampoos make the itching worse and cause hot spots. The nasty chemicals that stay on your dog, will rub off on to your hands when you pet them. And who remembers to wash their hands every time they pet their dog? What scares me the most is a child petting a dog who has recently been treated and then putting their hands in their mouth. That’s why using all natural products is even more important if you have children in the house. They are just as effective without all of the toxic junk!

I love the kit comes with a bone cookie cutter and recipes. So while you are baking during the holidays, you can bake your pup some treats to go in their stocking. Plus, you can add their favorite ingredients to make them extra special. I have loved making my dogs treats, though I’ve been slack lately.

You can get this amazing kit at Natural Luxe for only $28 and it’s on sale right now for $25.20

The Giveaway: 1 lucky winner will receive a Eco-Me Natural Dog Kit from Natural Luxe

Eco Friendly Memory Foam Review

There needs to be more time in a day… I had hoped to have Ella’s room finished by today, but sadly we have a few more things to do. But, it will be done in the next month and I will be back with pictures. 🙂 I still want to tell you about Ella’s fabulous new Eco Friendly Memory Foam mattress!!

Finding Eco friendly bedding has been a pain in my rear. It all started when I found out the crib/toddler mattress we had been using was made of PVC. I didn’t want to buy a new mattress when we would be upgrading to a larger bed in a year, so I went on the hunt for a bed. 3 weeks of searching, I gave up. When I say searching, I mean at least 40 hours were put into it! We decided to use the toddler bed’s headboard and coat it with organic fabric. So then I had to find a mattress. This was another long and hard task. There are organic cotton mattresses which are pricey, there are latex mattresses- which Ella has a latex allergy and even though they say the latex mattress wouldn’t cause a reaction, I still didn’t want to try it, and then there is the new Eco Friendly Memory Foam. The Eco Foam has friendly prices, so we went with that. Luckily, Arizona Premium Mattress Company gave me a discount so I could review the mattress and share my amazing results.
The Eco Foam is made with plant based memory foam which creates the most breathable foam on the market. The big thing for me is that mattress is not treated with chemical fire retardants, but fiber based fire retardants. That means there are no harsh chemicals for you or your child to inhale while sleeping. The foam has a bamboo cover which allows air flow movement and the foam to breathe- drawing heat away from the body. It is hypoallergenic and also antimicrobial. This will keep odors and mold growth from building up in your mattress which is often a huge problem with cotton mattresses.

When we got the mattress, we didn’t have the bed set up. But I was dying to try it out, so I laid it out on our living room floor. For 3 days I stayed on the floor on the mattress because it was so comfortable! The foam formed to my body and helped with my back pain as I was busy writing my reviews. 🙂 They need to make a couch out of this! We finally got Ella’s bed set up after a long horrible experience and ended up using an old oak bunk bed I had stored in our garage because our original plan fell through. But, it was all worth the hassle! The Eco Friendly Memory Foam mattress is the most comfortable mattress I have ever laid on!! When I have the money, I will be buying one for my bed!

I love how the mattress fits to your body. It is firm, yet soft. Last night I couldn’t sleep, so I crept into Ella’s room and slept with her. It was the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a while. Well, other than the foot in my ribs. I tend to toss and turn and end up on my sides or stomach. The mattress forms to your body to make any way you sleep unbelievably comfortable. I woke up this morning with no back pain, which is a miracle! Ella usually sweats a lot in her sleep and since she’s been using the Eco Foam, her night time sweats are gone. We’ve had the mattress for almost a month and there is no odor.

You can get the Eco Friendly Memory Foam mattress at Arizona Premium Mattress Company and shipping is free to anywhere in the US- except AK and HI. They also offer a 60 night sleep trial! If you enter your name and email you can get unadvertised specials with awesome discounts!

Here is Ella extremely happy in her new big girl bed:
I won’t even get into how difficult it was to find organic or bamboo sheets, pillows and comforters. But, if you are going to do it, do it right.

Bamboosa Giveaway

This giveaway has ended. Thanks to all that entered!
I know we all have been in situations where we have done something good and somehow have gotten punished for it. Well, that’s kind of what happened to terrific company called Bamboosa. If you have been with me a while, you might remember my FTC VS. Bamboo article. If you weren’t a reader, please check it out- it’s worth the read. But, to sum it up, the FTC charged 4 companies with “mislabeling” their bamboo products. 3 of the 4 companies didn’t fight the charge, but they still didn’t agree they were mislabeling anything. Bamboosa stood up for themselves and tried to fight the FTC for a while. But being a small American company, they could no longer afford the battle. This is a blog comment left by Mo, the owner, this week:
“Hi, this Mo from Bamboosa. I’d like to make a comment on this FTC thing if I may.

First, I want to say that the only reason that Bamboosa has decided to sign the consent order, after nearly a year of dealing with this, is that we feel we cannot fight the FTC. We are a small company with limited resources and we need to direct those resources where they will do the most good for our employees and our customers.

Bamboosa stands by our products as one of the best choices you can make for textiles or apparel. Our products, when taken as a whole, have a reduced environmental footprint when compared to most textile or apparel choices.

The FTC is incorrect in their assumption regarding the environmental impact of the fiber production and about any hazards to the workers. The FTC is looking at data from the standard production methods for rayon, not the production methods developed in the last several years for turning bamboo into a fiber.

They are also incorrect when they say that all fiber classified as rayon or viscose has the same attributes regardless of the cellulose source. Our tests have proven that there are significant differences between viscose from bamboo and viscose from a tree.

Regarding antimicrobial properties, the tests that we provided them with that show bamboo fabric inhibits the growth of bacteria may not have satisfied their requirements, but anyone who has ever worn a bamboo shirt or socks and sweated in them knows that the resistance to odor is there.

I would also like to say that any implication by the FTC that Bamboosa has engaged in any sort of ‘greenwashing’ is absolutely without merit. Our suppliers that sell us the fiber call it ‘bamboo fiber’. Our yarn spinner that sell us yarn says it is ‘bamboo yarn’. Bamboosa simply used the same terminology as we were getting from our suppliers. It is also worth noting that Bamboosa changed all of our labeling to read ‘viscose from bamboo’ prior to any FTC action. We made that change as soon as we were aware of the need for it.

Lastly, Bamboosa is a little company in a little town in SC. We started this company to try to bring some textile jobs back to Andrews. We are extremely proud of the products that we make and will put the environmental footprint of our products up against any apparel products on the market. While our fiber may come from China, the rest of our manufacturing, from yarn spinning to knitting, dyeing, sewing, and printing is done within a very small radius in SC.

The real story here should be why the FTC is trying to squash a small little company that is creating American jobs and who produces a product that, in reality, lives up to every claim that is made about it.
Thanks, Mo

Sorry for including all of that, but I think it’s important information and everyone should see both sides of a story. Especially when someone’s integrity is on the line. But here’s more about the amazing company… Bamboosa purchases their bamboo fiber from certified organic bamboo farmers in China. The fiber is then shipped to Andrews, SC to complete the manufacturing process which includes: spinning, knitting, dyeing and sewing. Yes, they do it all right here in the US! Think about how many job openings there would be if more companies did this instead of outsourcing to China? Bamboosa then creates quality viscose from bamboo fiber baby products, women’s and men’s products, socks, accessories, soaps, gift sets and more- at totally affordable prices. I know their socks are on my Christmas wish list!!

Bamboosa
sent Ella a BambooBaby Cable Knit Blanket and she has loved cuddling up with her soft “flunky.” When I think of cable knit, I think of scratchy old blankets at my grandmother’s house. This is nothing like that at all! The knit is super soft and doesn’t feel like a thick weave when you rub your hands against it. The blanket is breathable but will still keep your little one cozy in colder weather. Ella likes to keep her blanket in our living room so we can cuddle together. The BambooBaby Knit is a large size- 38X38, so it’s great for preschoolers or even laying on the floor for your little one to play on. It is also very stretchy and I can cuddle up under it if I’m sitting up. The BambooBaby Knit comes in 6 great colors and even a purely natural with no dyes.

The Giveaway: Bamboosa would like to give 1 lucky winner a BambooBaby Knit Blanket in their choice of color

AIR-O-SWISS Giveaway

This giveaway has ended. Thanks to all that entered!!
Last month I was researching Eco-friendly humidifiers for Ella’s room to prepare for the cold weather that was coming. After Ella battled her first real cold, I wanted to make sure this wasn’t going to be a reoccurring theme. I found AIR-O-SWISS and was amazed at their variety of low energy humidifiers. They were generous enough to send me a Evaporator AOS E2441 to review, which won the Red Dot Design Award for 2008! Well, this was a great idea until the night I put it in Ella’s room and saw her on the video monitor trying to take it a part. (Gotta love video monitors!) I would have put it on top of her dresser, but she’s smart enough to climb up there and I wouldn’t want the 8 lb. machine falling on her. So, the Evaporator went into my room.

I know you have all heard me complain about my never ending sinus infection that I’ve had since last December. I’ve tried everything from clay masks, multiple rounds of antibiotics, a different type of humidifier, homeopathic remedies, neti pots, healing jewelry, aromatherapy and my doc even put me on 2 different steroids. They all worked for about a week and the infection would come back. Last month my doctor had told me he wanted more tests done and I’ve been hesitant to get them. Well, since I’ve had the Evaporator in my room my sinuses have been clear! Not just for a week, but for 3!!

AIR-O-SWISS makes advanced air treatment system humidifiers which include: Air Washers, Evaporators, Ultrasonics, and Travel Sonics in various sizes for all of your needs. They also carry Air Cleaners. Cold weather brings dry air. Germs tend to travel faster in less humid temps which is why the flu often hits harder in the colder months. Introducing higher humidity levels to the air has been shown to constrain transmission of germs as well as limit their survival. Your house has tons of dust, mites, pollen, animal dander and more pollutants circulating through the air which can contribute to respiratory diseases. All of these particles thrive in dry air which is why you should maintain proper humidity levels at all times to insure your family stays healthy.

The Evaporator has been a life saver for me. You don’t know how good it feels to be able to breathe through both nostrils! The Evaporator is extremely simple to use. It’s like watering a plant. You fill a water jug with water and simply pour into the Evaporator when low. It has a mark showing you when it is almost full, so you don’t have to worry about over filling. I keep a old juice bottle (that has been cleaned) next to my sink and when I’m brushing my teeth at night, I fill the bottle with cold water.

This is how the Evaporator works: The Evaporator wick is first saturated with water. The fan then forces the dry air in the room through the wet wick and releases it again as properly humidified air. You can feel the cool air circulating at the top of the machine. But the great part is that it is almost silent. So it would be perfect for a nursery. That is until they are mobile and able to take things a part. 🙂 The air is not only humidified but also purified to a certain point. The wick will collect dust and dirt particles. The Evaporator also comes with a Ionic Silver Stick that uses aqueous silver ions to control microbial growth for up to 1 year of continued use. This is a problem I’ve had in the past with humidifiers… mold would start growing after a week. With the Evaporator I’ve had no mold or mildew growth in the month of use! The Evaporator is energy efficient and only uses a small amount of energy with around 24W. There are 2 whisper quiet operation modes for normal or nighttime use. This model works for a 430 sq. ft room. You can purchase a Evaporator through AIR-O-SWISS by clicking here. I highly recommend to add this to your holiday wish list!! Especially if you suffer from sinus infections or other respiratory issues.

The Giveaway: AIR-O-SWISS would like to give 1 LUCKY winner a Evaporator AOS E2441! That is a $140 value!

Need your help!!

Seventh Generation is having a Million Baby Crawl to stand up to Washington about toxic chemicals found in our homes. It’s about time!! Out of 80,000 chemicals introduced in the past 33 years, only 200 have been tested for safety!!

Here is what the bill wants done:

  • Take quick action on the most dangerous chemicals.
  • Require full information on the health and environmental hazards associated with all chemicals.
  • Protect all people and vulnerable groups – including children and pregnant women – using the best science.

To help turn this new bill into law, we have partnered with Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families, a diverse nationwide coalition comprised of environmental groups, health professionals and others working to pass smart federal policies that protect us from toxic chemicals.

Please click this link: http://www.millionbabycrawl.com?id=7328 support my crawler and sign up for your own. You can get 2 extra entries to ANY giveaway going on by doing so. If you link back to your crawler on a comment here, I will support you as well. By supporting one another we can get a chance to win a trip to Washington to march in January for this bill!

Go Green Items Giveaway

This giveaway has ended. Thanks to all that entered!!

Go Green Items is a fantastic Eco-friendly company with a variety of “green” items. They carry recycled bags, jewelry, organic clothing and personal care, Eco-friendly pet and baby items and some amazing “green” gadgets. Jennifer Meier started the company because she wanted to make it easier for customers to understand why green items are better for the environment and your families. We all know how confusing it is becoming “green!” Along with the wide variety of products found at Go Green Items, you can find out how their products qualify being green. Not only are Go Green Items great for the environment, so is their company as a whole. They even work out of their homes to reduce travel and additional electricity. You can read more about what Go Green Items is doing for the environment by clicking here.

Of course what led me to Go Green Items was their fabulous recycled bags! You can find recycled juice boxes, VHS tapes, inner tubes, billboards, newspapers and even phone books made into stylish bags for all occasions. Majority of the bags are handmade by a woman’s cooperative and are fair trade. The cooperative’s objective is to recycle non-biodegradable items and reuse them for profitable, attractive products. The cooperative currently provides a livelihood to 200 families, helping to generate much-needed income for basic living expenses and education. So buying a bag could provide a family with a meal, plus you are helping to keep the earth clean and green!

I received a Recycled Juice Box Large Round Tote that is awesome! The woven juice box pattern is unreal. You can’t tell where a juice box ends or begins and there are no holes or spaces. It’s woven like what you’d expect from a basket. Even the handles are woven juice boxes that make a perfect arch. The Recycled Tote has a juice box button loop closure that blends in with the bag. I was shocked once I opened the tote and saw how large the inside was. The tote would be great for the beach, pool, market, shopping, diaper bag, large purse, and even to pack a picnic lunch in. It is waterproof, so you can really use it for anything. I can see using mine to carry food in when traveling over the holidays. And if something spills, it is easy to wipe off.

I got the Red multicolored tote and it really stands out in a crowd. (Note that no 2 bags will be the same.) I call it my fiesta bag. 🙂 I’ve gotten so many compliments on it while shopping. We go to Target every week, so instead of getting plastic bags, I use the tote. They aren’t just for grocery shopping! This is stylish enough to wear as a purse and then store your new goods.

You can find recycled juice box coin purses, small clutch bags, sling bags, medium clutch bags, messenger bags, box purses, yoga bags, snap pouches and more at Go Green Items. The Giveaway: Go Green Items would like to offer 1 lucky winner a Recycled Juice Box Large Round Tote
