Moonrise Jewelry Giveaway

Did you wear green today? I wore a green tee shirt even though I didn’t leave the house. I usually wear something subtle on St. Patty’s Day since green isn’t really my color. Though, I have no issues with green jewelry! Since my mom loves jewelry and hasn’t had the chance to really benefit from the review products we get, I gave her my new Moonrise Jewelry earrings.
These Cherrystone Earrings are handmade in Virginia by Moonrise Jewelry. The materials were bought through Fair Trade and are renewable, recycled, or reclaimed. The earrings are green recycled glass with sterling silver ear wires. They are small, yet they stand out. My mom said they were light and comfortable. Some dangley earrings pull on your lobes and get uncomfortable after wearing them for long periods. I really like that you can wear them with anything. They looked great with my mom’s business attire, but could go with jeans and a tee. You can get the Cherrystone Earrings for only $25!

Moonrise Jewelry has an excellent selection of Eco-friendly, Fair Trade jewelry. They also carry exquisite real orchid blossom jewelry! Moonrise Jewelry makes sure that:

  • Every gem is mined through a low-impact mining process
  • No child labor is used during any process
  • No forces or exploitative labor is used
  • Safe working conditions are observed and maintained
  • Stones are untreated and natural
  • Gemstones are mined by hand using basic tools
  • That the mining and polishing process meets and exceeds with the progressive environmental protection standards

Moonrise Jewelry also tracks each gem from the mine to their studio to ensure they are handled to the strict environmental and social protocols.

If you love Moonrise Jewelry, you can even throw a Online E-Party! This is a great way to earn money for a charity or yourself. And it’s easy! All you have to do is contact Moonrise Jewelry and let them know when you’d like to throw the party. They will send you invites to forward to your guests. After the party, they will send your guests their jewelry and you a check for 15% of the total sales- along with a GC for free jewelry!

Happy St. Patty’s Day!

Happy Green day!! Hope everyone has had a great day! Ella is back to her normal self, thank goodness! Here is the diva posing in her green gear

Did you wear or do anything Green today?

What I Learned for $150

Last night when I was going to bed, I took Ella’s temp to make sure it wasn’t high again. I was in shock when the thermometer read 96.4. So I took it again and it came back 96.1. I then freaked out because it had been 104.5 only 8 hours earlier and that seemed extremely low. My first thought was that her body had quit trying to fight the infection. I felt her body, which was under a thick blanket and pj’s, to feel very cold skin. I was wearing a tank top and was warm. So I called our doctor’s office and was switched over to an on-call nurse.

She told me I needed to check her temp anally to make sure it was accurate. So I woke my mom up and we took her temp to find it was 96.7. The nurse told us we needed to head to the Levine Children’s hospital immediately. So, without question, we did. We got to the hospital at 1 a.m. and the nurse hadn’t called the hospital to let them know we were coming. So we had to go to the child ER on the other side of the hospital. I looked at the receptionist like he was crazy (I was on my crutches) and he brought me a wheel chair. I put Ella on my lap and we waited for my mom to park.

She came to get us and pushed us up to the main entrance. I have to say it was pretty funny that my mom was pushing us in a wheel chair to the ER at 1 in the morning- all in our pj’s! It was one of those moments I will never forget. So we finally arrive and a lady blows bubbles as she’s leading us to the room. Ella then comes to life and is excited about the bubbles. Then the lady asks what is her favorite movie and Ella tells her Aurora. So she leaves to go find the movie. Then a nurse comes in and takes her stats and makes it fun somehow. So this trip to the hospital was turning into playtime for Ella. Then the doctor comes in…

He tells me that the on-call nurse was wrong. A 96-104 temp for some people is normal. It’s a temp under 95 or a temp over 105 that you need to worry about. Especially if the child is non-responsive. Then we talked about her having HIB. He then told me it’s not HIB but the cousin of HIB. Haemophilus has 6 different types and she didn’t have the could be fatal B. This would have been great info that Ella’s doctor or nurse could have told us! The doctor also said that when a child has a fever it’s healthy to let me fight it off. If the child is comfortable and playing, even with a fever of 103 or 104, it’s ok not to give them anything. I had just gotten yelled at by my doctor for not giving her Tylenol when she had a 102 fever. What I was being told last night was how I felt from the beginning. So Ella checked out normal and we got home around 4:30 a.m. All of this for an over priced visit!! Here is a pic of Ella yesterday afternoon and then at the hospital:Her fever has been between 99-100 today and she’s back to her normal crazy self. So, I’m hoping the worst is over! Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers!

Putumayo Rhythm & Blues Giveaway

This giveaway has ended. Thanks to all that entered!
I found out about Putumayo when Ella was taking Gymboree classes when she was a baby/toddler. They played several CD’s and the kids loved dancing around to them. Plus, Putumayo Kids isn’t the kind of children’s music that makes you want to pull your hair out or accidentally “lose.” I had no clue that Putumayo created more than just kids music until last month. If you aren’t familiar with them, Putumayo is amazing cultural music from around the world. They have tons of music from Africa, Asia, Brazil, Europe, Latin, Middle East, Louisiana, Celtic, Caribbean, and lots more.

I was really excited that the new Putumayo Rhythm & Blues CD arrived before we took our trip. I love old music, and I especially love the blues. R&B began in the late 1940’s with swinging big band music. R&B was derived from gospel music and the blues. Today when you hear the term R&B you think of rap and hip hop, but true R&B is much different! It personally makes me flash back to movies from the 50’s and 60’s of people dancing and shagging. Which makes sense because R&B music was created to make people dance. So listening to this on the way to beach was totally appropriate.

The awesome thing about Putumayo’s Rhythm & Blues compilation is that they are performed by first generation legends and rising stars of today’s retro R&B revival. Featured artists include: Lavelle White • James Hunter • Cracked Ice • The Quantic Soul Orchestra featuring Kabir • The Emotions • Sam Moore, Keb’ Mo’ and Angie Stone • Catherine Russell • Ruthie Foster • Snooks Eaglin • Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings • Rockie Charles • Irma Thomas with Henry Butler.

The Putumayo R&B CD is really great for all ages! Ella enjoyed listening to it several times on our trip. I love the booklet that comes with the CD has info about each artist and their origins, especially since I can’t tell the difference between the old and new artists. 🙂

You can hear sample’s of the CD by visiting Putumayo’s website. You can purchase the CD online for only $14.98. You can also get free song downloads by checking out the Putumayo blog!

The Giveaway: Putumayo would like to give 1 lucky winner a Rhythm and Blues CD!

ecojot Giveaway

This giveaway has ended. Thanks to all that entered!
The benefit of being a stay at home mom is getting to take off whenever you’d like. My freelance writing lets me work where ever there is an internet connection. But, the sad part is that for the past 2 years I’ve had no money to travel. I still don’t have any money to travel, but opportunities keep coming up and I’m loving every minute of it! Especially since I know I will be traveling every month for the next 3 months. 🙂

I don’t have a GPS and I doubt I’ll ever invest in one. And I really hate printing out directions when I know I’ll lose them and need them again later. So I’ve been writing them down in a 5×7 ecojot journal and keeping it in my car! This has been great because they will be in a safe place for when I go back. I am a ditz when it comes to remembering how to get places. I love that I’m cutting back on paper waste and taking it to the next level by using recycled paper which I will eventually get recycled again.

If you’ve been with me a while, you might remember my ecojot review in October. If you weren’t around, ecojot sells Eco-friendly agendas, cards, calendars, folders, journals, notebooks, sketchbooks, scrapbooks, workbooks and wrapping paper. They are all made with 100% post-consumer recycled paper that is acid and chlorine free. All of the inks and glues are vegetable based and bio-degradable. And their new Spring line is awesome!

Another AWESOME thing about ecojot is their new Buy 1, We Give 1 Campaign. With every Jumbo Journal, 5×7 Journal, Eco Studio Sketchbook, or Eco Kids Sketchbook purchase, ecojot will donate a workbook to a child in need! ecojot has partnered with 3 organizations to ensure the shipment of the workbooks to developing countries. I’ve heard parents in the US complain about not having money for school supplies, but think about the impoverished countries where they can’t even afford books. ecojot understands the importance of children’s arts and literacy and are helping these children get the supplies they need.

Being a writer, I love having notebooks in my bag in case I get an idea or Ella says something adorable that I want to remember. They also come in handy if we are waiting somewhere and Ella needs a distraction. But, I always felt guilty wasting paper for just scribbles. Granted, it could be recycled. But trees were being cut down just for our wasteful behaviors. In college I did switch over to writing everything on the computer. But I don’t carry my computer to the aquarium or beach. ecojot sent me a Jumbo 6×9 journal and a 5×7 journal to review. The 5×7 has stayed in my car as my directions book. And my favorite 6×9 journal has stayed in my bag as my note journal. It has 150 pages which will be more than enough to get me through the next year or so. And have I said how much I love the quality and artwork! ecojot is sold in stores internationally and can be purchased online.

The Giveaway: ecojot would like to give 1 lucky winner a 5×7 and 6×9 journal pictured below

Surprise vacation

Sorry I’ve disappeared again! I’m trying not to make a habit out of this. But for some reason we’ve traveled more over the past couple of months than we have in the past 3 years. We were invited to go with some friends to the beach again, so I couldn’t say no! Granted, it was in the low 60’s, so no swimming or sun bathing. But, we did have a blast playing in the sand and chasing birds. I have 400+ emails to get through tonight and I promise I will be back tomorrow with some great giveaways and reviews! I was so excited when I came home to 7 packages!!! I hope everyone has had a great week. Here are some pics from our trip:

Planet One Gifts Easter Giveaway

This giveaway has ended. Thanks to all that entered!
Easter baskets have been around for ages as symbols of new life and renewal. They also are seen as representing Spring and the rebirth of the planet each year. According to legends, people would bring baskets of early seedlings to the fertility goddess Eostre- who carried a basket of eggs, to increase the chance of a plentiful harvest. In German folklore, the white Easter Hare would leave baskets filled with candies, colored eggs, and goodies for the children on Easter morning. It is said that Easter grass comes from the Dutch tradition of children leaving eggs in nests to deliver on Easter Sunday. I found this clip from the History channel if you are interesting in learning more.

I remember the joy of searching the house for my Easter basket as a child. One year it was hidden in the dryer and I couldn’t find it. I remember being so upset that the bunny skipped my house! This is a fun tradition that I plan to pass along to my children, but I don’t want to be wasteful in doing so. I don’t like the idea of junk toys that get played with once. And there’s no reason a 3 year old needs a basket filled with candy! Now that Easter is only a month away, it’s time to start thinking about what the white rabbit will be leaving in our house…
Planet One Gifts has created amazing fair trade eco-friendly Easter baskets for older and younger girls and boys. I received the Little Girl basket and it is one of the most original baskets I’ve ever seen! The basket itself is handwoven by artisans in Bangladesh. To me, it screams little girl. It’s the perfect size for flower petals, play food, chalk and even hair bows. Planet One Gifts filled the Easter basket with biodegradable Easter grass to cut down on waste. Not to mention how toxic the plastic strings can be for pets!

Some of you might wonder why this is important or why is this better than the $2 plastic basket at Walmart. The basic idea of the Easter basket is to celebrate all of mother nature. So why would you want to promote sweatshops that employee children who should be in school or outside playing? And why would you want purchase products that are made with petrochemicals, carcinogens, and other dangers for the environment, workers, and your children? Especially when you can purchase fair trade baskets that are handmade by artisans from impoverished countries. By simply making a fair trade purchase and skipping out on the plastic junk, you are making a statement that you want change. It truly starts with 1 person!

The Little Girl basket is also filled with fun educational fair trade toys. My personal favorite is the Guatemalan Worry Dolls. I had these when I was a child and had forgotten all about them. According to legend, if you tell the Worry Dolls your worries and place them under your pillow, by the morning the dolls will have taken your worries away. The Worry Dolls are made by women who live on the outskirts of Guatemala. Through UPAVIM Crafts, these women have developed a community medical and dental clinic, scholarship and tutoring program, breastfeeding program, and Montessori daycare center through their sales. There are 3 other awesome products in the Little Girl basket that are made by UPAVIM Crafts- a Toothfairy Bag, Clay Animal Family, and a Tic Tac Toe game. I love that the Tic Tac Toe game is made out of fabric and buttons. That is a genius way to cut out wasting paper for the fun game! It is a great size for traveling.

The Little Girl basket also comes with a Animal Pewter Charm with cord in a fun tin from South Africa. There are 12 different animals that you could get! And of course no Easter basket would be complete without some kind of chocolate! It comes with the Divine Milk Chocolate Coins imported from the Netherlands. These shiny gold coins are made with the finest fair trade cocoa, smooth cocoa butter, and real vanilla. The coins are also free of artificial flavorings, colorings, and preservatives. I am going to hide these in Easter eggs for our egg hunt. 🙂

Here are what the other 3 Easter baskets look like. You can get them at Planet One Gifts for only $39.95! Not only are you giving your child eco-friendly, educational and responsible gifts, you are helping a family eat, get medical attention and live a better life. The Giveaway: Planet One Gifts would like to give 3 lucky winners a bag of Divine Milk Chocolate Coins!! Earth Mama Angel Baby Giveaway

This giveaway has ended. Thanks to all that entered!
Earth Mama Angel Baby - Angel Baby

One thing I hate about the Winter is chapped lips! I hate the feeling of your lips peeling on top of being red and dry. It can be really painful, especially if you are using the wrong kind of chapstick! I’ve learned over the years that you can’t buy the cheap stuff unless you plan to put it on 30 times a day. I avoid anything with paraffin and beeswax because those seem to make the peeling worse. You also want to check the ingredients before you make your purchase because believe it or not there can be toxic junk in your lip balm. Lots of big named brands use ingredients like synthetic fragrances and colors- such as FD&C yellow, isopropyl lanolate, methylparaben and propylparaben which all are high hazards according to the Cosmetic Database.

Some of you might remember an older review of Earth Mama Angel Baby a few months ago for their fabulous Happy Mama Spray and Angel Baby Shampoo. They just sent me their Mint Herbal Lip Balm and Angel Baby Bath Blossoms and I’m still really in love with the company!

Earth Mama Angel Baby
is an amazing site that sells non-toxic pregnancy, labor, postpartum, breastfeeding, baby loss comfort, and Angel baby products. They also have a plethora of information about their products, natural remedies, child birth, breastfeeding, infant safety, and even the loss of a child. When I lost my first child, I didn’t know there were such sites to help me through my loss. So if one of your friends or family members loses a child, please send them to the Earth Mama Angel Baby site! There are even numerous gifts you can purchase to help them heal.

But, on to happy things like great lip balms and relaxing baths! The Mint Herbal Lip Balm goes on very smooth and feels like a gloss once it’s on. It’s not thick and you can feel the organic olive oil and organic shea butter moisturize your lips. I also like that the lip balm is made with candelilla wax, which is obtained by boiling candelilla leaves. The lip balm also contains organic calendula extract, organic St. John’s wort extract, vitamin E, and pure essential oils. The silky smoothness lasts about an hour, but your lips don’t feel scratchy when it wears off like other balms can do. The Mint Herbal Lip Balm is priced like other lip balms at only $3.95. If you only want to order the lip balm, call customer service so you aren’t overcharged for shipping!

I also got to try the Angel Baby Bath Blossoms and my bath was sooo relaxing with the blossoms when I had the flu! I could barely smell anything during my whole sickness, but I was able to smell the relaxing aroma permeating from my hot bath. I decided to use this product on me instead of Ella because mama needs pampering too! She always gets to try the fun bath products. The Bath Blossoms container comes with organic blossoms of calendula, chamomile, rosebuds and lavender along with organic lemon balm and organic oatmeal. It also has a pouch that you can put the blossoms in and then put into the bath. It’s kind of like your bath becomes a huge tea pot. You can even use the bag as a wash cloth during your bath. I loved the soothing oatmeal! The Angel Baby Bath Blossoms are only $8.95!

Make sure you check Earth Mama Angel Baby for their weekly specials! They always have amazing offers! And you can always check my side bar for updated deals!! 😉

Trillium OGbaby Review

When Ella kept catching a cold this season, I decided to do some research on products that could help get her through the bad part of the sickness. Ella is usually a trooper and keeps on playing, even if she’s miserable. But, when her fever is high, she looks pitiful and it breaks my heart. For over 2 years I was scared to death for her to get sick because I hadn’t had to face it before. But now that I’ve learned the best products to use and how to keep her (and myself) comfortable, the next time will be so much easier!

You might remember my review of the Trillium Organics Perfume earlier this month. Trillium Organics also carries organic and non-toxic skin care ranging from oils, lotions, scents, and soaps. They also have the OGmama line, which includes belly butter, belly polish, moisture oil, and gentle soap.

Trillium also has 2 baby lines, OGbaby-RFF and OGbaby-BFTT. The OGbaby-RFF contains moisture oil, barrier balm, gentle soap, and a sampler. The OGbaby-BFTT is a gentle soap, respiratory rub, and a sampler. I was sent the sampler to review and I’m so glad I had it around when Ella caught the crud!

The OG-BFTT gentle soap is for children with a cold or the flu. It is an aromatic soap that you rub on your little one (or yourself) or pour a tiny bit into a bath to inhale the aromatherapy vapors. This worked really well for Ella before she went to bed every night. I usually give her baths during the day, but wanted to use this so she could breathe at night. It’s no fun when you feel bad and can’t sleep, so I did everything that I could to help her. And this seemed to do the trick!

The OG-BFTT respiratory rub was awesome to use right after the aromatherapy bath. Well, and any other time of the day she was hacking. The rub contains organic eucalyptus which helps promote the flow of mucus. The tea tree oil used is a natural antibacterial antiviral inhalant to help treat ear, nose, and throat infections. I applied the rub on Ella’s chest, feet, and back every night. It truly helped her sleep through the night and I know it also played a part in her virus not going into an infection.

Both products will help your child cope through a cold, flu, or allergies. Trillium Organics carries a sampler of both items for only $9.98! That way you can try both products and see how they work with your child. These can be used on infants-youth. We received the sampler, so I didn’t really use much on myself. I tried it one night just to test it out and was pretty impressed.

All of the Trillium OGbaby products are free of allergens, parabens, phthalates, petroleums, nano-particles, propylene glycol, synthetic fragrances, and have no sodium laurel sulfates. The company is woman owned and operated by a mother who wants to make things better by creating greener and cleaner products!

If you’d like 5 extra entries to any giveaway going on, sign up for Trillium Organics newsletter, Facebook page, or on Twitter. Just comment here and leave “Trillium Organics” in the entry box. These entries can be used at any time as long as you comment on this post!

*This is only my opinions, thoughts, and results. I was sent these items to review for free from Trillium Organics, but that in NO way changes how I feel about their products.

Seventh Generation Giveaway

This giveaway has ended. Thanks to all that entered!

It’s almost official. Our house is about to be on the market. The realtor came over yesterday to measure and take pictures. She made a joke about needing to wear a face mask and for me to spray Lysol everywhere before she came over. I cringed at the thought of spraying Lysol, but then thought she did have a point about us needing to kill the lingering germs. Luckily, we were prepared for our illness and had tons of products to help us- if you haven’t been able to tell from the theme of this week. We were just sent the new Seventh Generation products and I’m really excited to share them with you!

Seventh Generation just released their new line which includes Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner, Disinfecting Multi-Surface Cleaner, and Disinfecting Wipes. These are the first ever EPA- registered disinfecting products that KILL germs NATURALLY! Seventh Generation teamed up with one of my favorite sanitizer company’s, Clean Well, to create these amazing disinfectants. Clean Well discovered how to use thymol, a component of thyme oil, into a cleaning solution that kills 99.9% of household germs- including the flu and H1N1. They also have the lowest EPA toxicity rating available! These are amazing, safe, and effective cleaners that leave your house smelling great! I love the citrus scent. 🙂

My favorite of the 3 products is the Disinfecting Wipes. These were fantastic while cleaning Ella’s toys!! She played with pretty much everything while she was sick, and the thought of spraying and wiping down every toy wasn’t something I was looking forward to. But the wipes made the task so much easier! And I feel confident in letting her friends come over to play without catching whatever we had. These are great for the slack cleaner like me! To be even more eco-friendly, I have rinsed the wipes and reused them with the other cleaners. You can get 3-4 cleanings out of them!

I have loved using the spray disinfectants in our kitchen and bathrooms. They are designed to especially kill: Influenza A, H1N1, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enterica, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. So if you drop raw kitchen on the counter, spray a little of the Multi-Surface Disinfectant and the counter is safe enough to eat off of. Both sprays are streak, smear and spot free. I hope they start using these in childcare centers instead of bleach. This is such a break through for disinfectants!!

You can find the disinfectant line online, at Whole Foods, at participating natural food stores, grocers, Babies R Us, Target and more! You can check availability online at Seventh Generation.

What I love about Seventh Generation is they don’t hide what’s in their products. They list every ingredient plus the Material Safety Data Sheets! Seventh Generation is dedicated in protecting your family and the environment from toxic chemicals. There is still time to join the Seventh Generation Million Baby Crawl in their fight against toxic chemicals in the household. Your “baby” will crawl to Washington to say “no” to toxic chemicals found in our homes. If you support my crawler- Michelle L you can get 5 extra entries to any giveaway going on!
