This giveaway has ended. Congrats Ashley R!!
The safest alternative to plastic is glass. The only problem with glass around children is the fact that it can break. Luckily there are amazing companies like Silikids
that have created silicone covers
for all glass bottles and now cups!
Silicone is non-toxic and hypo allergenic. Silicone has few open pores, so it does not harboror promote bacteria or fungus growth. Because of its high heat resistance, silicone can be boiled to sterilize, is dishwasher safe, and washer and dryer safe. Silicone does not fade or retain odor, and is sturdy and easy to clean.
Silicone is basically made up of silicon, a natural element present in sand, quartz and rock, which (after oxygen) is the most abundant element on earth. Silicon is transformed into silicone when combined with oxygen, carbon and hydrogen. Because it is an inert material, it does not react with food or beverages, or produce any hazardous fumes. Which is why this is the best alternative to plastic!
Since BPA, PVC and Phthalates can leach toxins, it’s especially important to pay attention to plastic products that will go into children’s mouths- like cups and bottles. When these toxic plastics are put in higher temperatures the chance they will leach out is much higher. BPA is not only a threat to bottles and toys, it is turning up in our food and beverages. BPA easily leaches into our food because it’s a unstable polymer- meaning its chemical bond can be easily broken down by heat and acidic conditions. Which means heating a bottle or even serving juice in a unsafe plastic cup could end up toxic.
Ella has been using Silikids
for a year now.
She started off drinking out of the smaller 6 oz. glass. These fit into her hand, had the perfect grip, and she was able to learn cup control. Now she is a pro at drinking out of open cups and 6 oz. wasn’t cutting it at dinner time. Silikids
just came out with a 12 oz. glass
that is perfect for preschoolers and even adults! It is still the perfect fit for small hands, though is much taller. Ella knocked over the glass kitchen table, which shattered. Her Siliskins cup
was on the table and after the fall/crash it made it out in tact! And that was after landing on hardwood flooring.
You can get the Siliskins 6 oz. glasses Set of 4
for $25.95 and you can get the 12 oz. glasses 4 pack
